Earlier this year, EbonyLife announced a few of her projects for 2016 and beyond. While some such as On the Real and Sons of the Caliphate have been released for public consumption, others are still in the works.
Coming to our screens soon is “Dere”, a miniseries executive produced by Mo Abudu and directed by “O-Town” award winning filmmaker, C.J Fiery Obasi. Dere is centred around Dere called “Cinderella” by her weird Grandmother, the beautiful, naive, indulged only child of the Kosoko’s, who graduated from St. Andrews University in Scotland, after studying Law and International relations.
Once back in Nigeria, her long-term boyfriend dumps her, increasing her sense of isolation, desperation and desolation.
“Dere” stars Gbenro Ajibade, Weruche Opia, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Carol King, Emmanuel Ikubese, Shaffy Bello among others.
EbonyLife TV had previously announced the launch of more compelling drama with titles and storylines familiar to Africans. According to the network, it will produce African adaptions of epic and biblical blockbusters like “Romeo and Juliet,” “Cinderella,” “Robin Hood,” “The Prodigal Son”, “David and Goliath,” “Samson and Delilah” to mention a few.
Ebonylife has provided us with quality entertainment in the past, so let’s hope it’s decision to embark on African adaptations of Western stories will resonate with audiences.
