Filmhouse Cinemas and FilmOne Distribution and Production just announced that both companies are parting ways with Co-founder and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Kene Mkparu.
Mkparu who left 17 years of cinema working experience in the UK to start the FilmOne/Filmhouse Group in Nigeria, has been quite instrumental in developing the brand/business of the Group, establishing them as a top cinema chain and a sealing them as a force to reckon with in the Nigerian film space.
While there is no explicit reason stated for Mkparu’s departure, word on the street is that the decision was not voluntary, and the statement suggests that Mkparu will not be a part of the Group’s future operations.
Furthermore, in a move that shows the Group is keen to implement better corporate governance codes in its new phase, separate Managing Directors have been appointed to steer the affairs of the two Companies; Kene Okwuosa, former Group Deputy Managing Director will head Filmhouse Cinemas, while Moses Babatope, former Group Chief Operation Officer will head FilmOne Distribution and Production.
We hope this new phase ushers in even more innovation and a more transparent environment for stakeholders in the industry and wish the FilmOne/Filmhouse Group all the best in its future endeavors.
